We are excited to announce that Transparent OLEDs (T-OLEDs) are now shipping! This unique new product allows viewers to see content displayed on screen as well as objects positioned behind it. Black/dark content appears as transparent and brighter contents are opaque and vibrant. In addition to its transparent nature (38% transparency showing full “black” content), T-OLED provide the same benefits as typical OLEDs, such as a wide color gamut (120% NTSC).

Our T-OLEDs feature our “Sturdiglass” protective glass, optically-bonded to each side of the T-OLED panel. This makes for a robust product ready for touch integration (10pt or 32pt infrared touch optional). Unlike past transparent display technologies, no backlighting is required. While transparent LCD required a controlled “lightbox” enclosure setup like those shown above, T-OLEDs can be free-floating or even applied to the interior of a window.

GPO Display’s video wall processing is built-in, making 4K transparent video wall arrays possible. These can be portrait (two columns max.) or landscape (two rows max.) oriented, much like single-display T-OLED applications. T-OLED video walls feature tiled gaps of ~12mm (less than 0.5″) without the prominent black bezel of LCD video walls.

This product has the potential to expand the definition of digital signage and out-of-home advertising but there are so many possible uses beyond this narrow vertical. Video Teleconference (VTC) with T-OLEDs bring new meaning to the term “virtual telepresence”. With a simple black background, remote participants appear as if they are in the room with you:

There are many as-yet undiscovered uses for Transparent OLEDs. GPO Display is here to assist you in the design of your potential T-OLED system, with numerous custom options ranging from touch interactivity to custom mounting and redesign of the electronics box (E-box) which drives the OLED panel. This gives designers more flexibility in placement of the electronics, which can be necessary in window-mounting scenarios or other areas where there are no wall boxes or cabinets nearby in which to house the E-box.
