Reading Time: 2 Minutes –
In this week’s short but informative blog, we wanted to address a question that is often asked about the longevity of our video walls and other commercial displays.
So, how long will my GPO Display video wall last?
A common concern regarding video walls is their lifespan- which is a completely valid concern! A video wall is rarely the outright cheapest display option (especially if you’re factoring in only up-front cost), so you want to make sure that you’ll be able to get a good amount of use out of it. The LCD panels used in our video walls and other commercial displays are rated at 50,000-60,000 hours MTBF. In other words, this means that our video walls can operate twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year, for over 5.7 years before reaching half-brightness.
What is half-brightness? Great question, half-brightness is the point at which backlight degradation lowers the typical brightness of a display by, well, 50%.
As one of the few video wall manufacturers that actually produces their own backend electronics (a “true” manufacturer, as it were) we have the added security of a superior power supply which ensures that the failure rate of our displays electronics is unparalleled.

One last thing
Users can maintain the life span of our video walls by powering off displays when not in use and by avoided the display of static images for extended periods. Keep ambient temperature in mind- factors such as airflow in recessed wall applications should also be taken into account. It is wise to place the video wall in a well-ventilated, clean area. The vast majority of heat output on an LCD video wall emanates from the panel, so keep this in mind when designing video wall enclosures and/or cosmetic trim.
